Midwifery Background
As an NHS registered midwife for 20 years here in Cornwall my experience included:
Being a hospital based midwife, handling all aspects of care: antenatal, delivery suite and postnatal.
Community midwifery. (Homebirths)
Early pregnancy midwifery.
Miscarriage support.
Transitional Care midwifery ( neonates 34wks and up )
Neonatal life support training.
I have advocated and supported numerous women and families over the last two decades.
I’m qualified in Mental Health Assessment in urgent, emergency and acute care. (2018).
I qualified in Midwifery with the University of Plymouth in 2002.
Wife and Mum
I’m married with two beautiful children of my own. We’re lucky enough to have spent that time in Cornwall. I’m based in Truro.
When not at work I enjoy horse riding, reading and walking.
I have found that some clients appreciate an open mind when considering natural remedies and I’m happy to help you investigate all the options.
New Opportunity
Over the last two years my NHS colleagues and I have witnessed a significant change in the way the NHS functions and we have adapted to the many pressures and some shortcomings in the way it strives to provide maternity care.
I now have the opportunity to embark on a new journey and will not be practising as a midwife for the moment but am offering a new, private, individualised Doula style service.
Family Centred Care
For me supporting informed choices within family centred care is paramount.
Empowering women to get the birth experience they hoped for, along with dealing with the emotions when expectation don’t quite match experience.
Individual Service
We all require different support, some may just want postnatal care or some extra guidance throughout labour, whilst others may need the mental health support that I can provide.
I’m excited to be able to provide services tailored to your specific needs, basing my care on a holistic model.
IVF and Complex Pregnancy
If you have pre existing conditions which may effect the course of your pregnancy or you need more reasssurance or guidance then I can help you understand the medical minefield and the available choices.
Pregnancy Loss
I can offer empathetic and personal support and reassurance for those who have experienced a loss at any stage in pregnancy.
Emotional Support
I aim to provide the correct amount of physical and psychological support at all stages of pregnancy and for at least 28 days postpartum.
I’ll use my experience to help you, your partner and family navigate the maternity services that you chose to engage with.I’ll support you with this as an adjunct to the medical care you already receive.
